Alexander McQueen S/S ‘2000 in i-D, Dec 1999
Saved because: I’ve always been fascinated by armor. Some people may find it one of the more boring sections of a museum to see, but not for me. Looking at a piece of armor requires you to mentally go through the thought of, someone actually wore this, and fought in it? And to that end, some of the decorative arts done for these incredible medieval and renaissance era armor sets are truly lost to time. I’m a big medievalist at heart, and I’ve always been drawn to this Alexander McQueen piece from S/S 2000, which I recently came across again the form of this tear from an old i-D editorial, shot by David Slipper in Dec 1999.
It was commissioned to jewelry designer Shaun Leane by Lee McQueen for said show, and now lives in the Met’s permanent collection. It’s actually a more medieval-inspired take on a Yashmak, a popular face covering for women during the later stages of the Ottoman Empire, which I didn’t know until now!
Ginny Sims Ceramics Vase
Saved because: There are probably about a dozen ceramicists I want to have amongst my homewares, Ginny Sims being one of them. I’ve followed her for years but have never purchased anything. Perhaps that time will come soon. She recently posted these new pieces in brown and black with little floral motifs that almost look like collage. I’m keeping an eye on her web shop so I don’t miss them!
The Prada F/W ‘26 (Muted) Rainbow
Saved because: Unfortunately, I am not much of a summer girl. My mind is perennially on cool weather and layers. Though it probably won’t be actually cold in Los Angeles until November (maybe late October if we’re lucky), I saved this swipe from The Broken Arm, who now has Prada’s fall menswear offering in store. I’ve been obsessed with this collection since it was revealed this past January, and the muted color palette is one I look forward to incorporating into my fall-winter wares this year. That mustard up front and third pink look—the trench—is my dream coat!
Serge Gainsbourg’s Repetto Jazz Shoes
Saved because: It may have been last summer when I read It Girl by Marisa Meltzer, but I remember somewhere the mention of Jane Birkin buying Serge pairs of the white jazz shoes from Repetto from baskets at the time back in the ‘70s…funny to think of how expensive and iconic the shoes are now, even being the shoe on Michael Rider’s debut CELINE runway. (Personally, I love the heel on the Zizi from Repetto.)
I saved this image of his worn out shoes from AnOther Magazine’s coverage of his daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg’s debut photography exhibition, which features images from his famous Rue Verneuil home in Paris. For me, it is maybe one of the most memorable pairs of shoes in fashion and culture, and this image would be wonderful framed.
I bought a copy of a French Bazaar a few years ago that had images of the space, but Charlotte’s photos capture it in a new light. It’s a place I hope to pay a visit to one day, if those walls could talk, right?
(FYI, Ref has a good dupe of the Zizi right now, a hair less expensive.)
Bobine Glass Lamp in Red & Green (Via Jessica Helgerson Design)
Saved because: This image caught my eye while on Pinterest this week. The contrast between the modernist lamp and its colors to the dark wood surface, worn leather pencil cup and silver mail holder and the painting behind it is so lovely. The lamp is a Bobine lamp, which are handblown by artisans in Portland. You can choose your shade color too to pair with the red base. I love this green milk glass and red combo.
Dior Men S/S ‘27 Crochet Tote
Saved because: 10/10 would carry this as my everyday work tote. It’s yet another wonderful, zany creation from the mind of Jonathan Anderson for Dior Men. The knits in this past collection were particularly good, and this standout granny chic bag is no exception.
