Everything I Saved This Week | 021
The opening of The Phoenician Scheme, Oasis x Adidas, and a library from the 1500s.
For week ending 6/21.
The Opening Credits Scene of The Phoenician Scheme
Saved because: Last night I finally saw Wes Anderson’s latest. Just under two hours, it was a pleasant and IMO clever jaunt through Andersonian territory. It had one of the best opening credit scenes that WA’s done, a slow motion, overhead shot of Benicio Del Toro being tended to in his villa’s bathroom by various nurses and attendants. My favorite detail was the champagne in the bidet. Other favorite details from the film, Del Toro’s set of fictional books covering quite the gamut of topics I’d like to read about.
Though his later films feel so much more insular in terms of time, location and place than some of his earlier works, like Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums, I enjoyed The Phoenician Scheme and particularly loved the story. What I mean by insular—I feel like the aforementioned films existed more in the real world, while some of Anderson’s most recent efforts feel more like stage plays, confined to his very detailed sets, props, etc. Not that I’m mad at either!
Marine Serre Maison
Saved because: Unfortunately, I’ve never met an espresso set I haven’t loved, and Marine Serre’s new Maison line is no different. The bone ground color with the designer’s signature graphic moons paired with the carame color of freshly poured espresso…I’ll take two!
Look 11 at Prada S/S ‘26
Saved because: Consider it the Mrs. P and Raf Simons outfit formula for next spring—or early fall, if you’re me. I wrote about my obsession with trench coats in January, and let’s just go ahead and add this lipstick red one to the list. I have a vintage Burberry one I found on Etsy that’s close enough, maybe a touch brighter, but I’m glad to see Prada and I are on the same page. The navy socks and the open-toe loafers are also a smash IMO—a nice way to say, I like summer, but I don’t love summer (aka me).
Westminster Abbey’s Library
Saved because: For today’s “why am I not there right now” recurring daily thought, I landed on this photo from Westminster Abbey’s library, which sits in the abbey’s cloisters, and has been there since the late 1500s. The framed lettering on the side of the cases, the portraits on the walls. Oh, I can only imagine the treasures in there. Perhaps because I’m reaching Jo Harkin’s The Pretender, I have a particular itch to return to England (or don’t I always?)
Lacquer Green Furniture
Saved because: Found this on Pinterest. I adore a modern lacquered furniture moment in a more traditional European apartment vibe, aged parquet floors, some classical-looking artwork on the walls. I actually have a cute red side table from Anthro of all places that achieves this vibe, but without the price tag of this gorgeous sideboard.
Adidas UK x Oasis
Saved because: Friends, it’s upon us—Oasis tour begins on 7/4 in Cardiff. Which means only two-ish more months until they descend on Los Angeles, in which I’ll be seeing them (!!!!!!) They’ve *aptly* launched a collab with Adidas, featuring their ‘Live ‘25’ merch. The campaign launch video was absolutely incredible, tracked with “Live Forever,” recreating what I can only imagine it felt like to attend an Oasis gig back in the mid-90s. The teaser, the stills, A++++.
Since time travel doesn’t exist, I’ll accept it in the form of this collaboration that, for me, is truly kryptonite. You know I already bought one of the shirts and am considering another… I saw Pulp briefly at Coachella 2012, and then Blur and The Stone Roses in 2013, Liam Gallagher and John Squire last year in London, next Oasis then Pulp later this year—collecting my Brit Pop infinity stones out here to stay sane.
Until next week!
x
Maddie
