For week ending 5/23.
Louis Vuitton Cruise ‘26 Medieval Manuscript-Inspired Handbags
Saved because: If you’ve met me, I’m a wannabe medievalist and historian, and soon as I heard Nicolas Ghesquière’s next on-location show was to be at the Palais de Papes in Avignon, France, I nearly had a heart attack. Anytime a brand chooses a location so special, and the collection lives up to it, is a win for my collective loves. Nicolas did not disappoint—with gorgeous Joan of Arc-inspired metal crowns and a woolen cape with flames on it, mirrored-mosaic sandals, armor-like detailing on various pieces and textile work worthy of sumptuous kings and queens who used to walk through the halls of the Palace in the middle ages.
Most importantly, the bags were a standout to me, and always are with Nicolas (and Marc at LV before him) taking classic LV shapes and doing something completely new with them. For Cruise, they were worked with patterns lifted off the pages of ancient parchment manuscripts, gilded pomegrantes on an Alma PM, a mini locked Speedy that looks like pressed gold foil. My favorite was a checkerboard Alma-hybrid with a wristlet strap that reminded me of grand parquet floors at court.
Mahogany Revolving Bookcase (c. 1810) via NYPL Picture Collection
Saved because: This, in an entryway, with your most prized books? Oh yes.
Irving Penn, Vogue (1960s)
Saved because: Nothing scratches the brain better than a perfect vanity image.
Louise Bourgeois, Ambition (1989)
Saved because: I’ve been thinking a lot about ambition lately, and this Louise Bourgeois painting is an interesting interpretation of it. Going in circles to ultimately get to one place, or is ambition something that starts and stops, goes through phases, or seasons?
Cotton Flower Detail from Prada F/W ‘24
Saved because: This is a Prada collection I think about often. Miuccia took a traditional “front” of a look, like a trench coat or skirt suit, and updated the backs with really lovely details—exquisite flowers, bows, and contrasting silks. I loved this early version of the flower detail I found on IG the other day.
Loewe S/S ‘23 Precollection Dress
Saved because: Every time I see this dress it stops me in my tracks. A true dream item. It instantly reminds me of the Lux Lisbon Heaven x Sofia Coppola skirt, but just a bit more anonymous. Oh, how we’ll miss you at Loewe, Jonathan!
Louis Vuitton S/S ‘00 Monogram Skirt by Marc Jacobs
Saved because: OK, looping back around to more Vuitton.
I’m a sucker for LV monogram done correctly. An example of this was Marc spring 2000 runway, where he used the house’s brocade monogram in various wearable pieces, one of the best, this skirt. I found it on Grailed, but sadly not in my size. If you’re a 00, this one’s all for you.
A Lovely Note from Writer Liz Tran
Saved because: I’m constantly working to reframe my ways of thinking and how I speak to myself. This note from the Instagram of writer, author and executive coach Liz Tran resonated. Instead of letting everything feel like a burden, why not flip it?
And I’ll leave you with that. Until next time! xx
