For week ending 2/8.
Dalí for French Vogue, 1971
Saved because: Love this balance of masculine and feminine energy (and sardine cans?) from Salvador Dalí’s take on a fashion spread for French Vogue in 1971. There’s also a certain Opheliac quality to it.
Altuzarra F/W ‘25
Saved because: We’re all sleeping on Joseph Altuzarra—I feel like his line was popular in 2008-2015ish, but since the F/W 24 season, he’s really been catching my eye again with his design choices and choice of venue (his HQ). I think his collections are striking a chord in me it feels like he is designing for a woman of the world. Her pieces have life, history, etc, and ultimately, that’s what I want in my closet and what I want my style to exude. I feel like this is happening at Bally, too, FWIW. Altuzarra’s work also feels different and all his own, instead of more and more houses churning out post-Philo looks or copies of The Row. This studded trench is to die for, and is one of 3 major closing looks.
‘Church Open’ Drawing by Man in the Woods
Saved because: Not a day goes by where I’m not thinking about my honeymoon to England last year. If I could go back (one day!) I would go on a driving tour just to visit all of the old churches to see all of the medieval architecture. I love this drawing I found by an English artist I follow.
Prada F/W ‘24 by Szilveszter Makó
Saved because: Szilveszter Makó is one of the few fashion photographers I feel is doing anything truly original these days. You’ve seen his portraits of Willem Defoe with a house hat on his head and Gwendoline Christie, Cate Blanchett, etc. He’s kind of reinventing what surrealism can be in the modern era, and I love it. I particularly love this shot of one of my favorite shift dresses from Prada’s F/W ‘24 collection. Also, apparently the theme of this newsletter should be #girllayingdown, given the first and now this image.
Françoise Dorléac, 1965
Saved because: Everyone’s talking about v-necks again, and this is my favorite way to wear one. +1 for the sunglasses, too.
Hair Comb, 1900 - 1920, England
Saved because: J’adore how modern this feels!
A Fruit Museum in Torino, Italy
Saved because: It’s the cataloging and script for me. It’s like Buly 1803 but for fruit.
Maison Margiela S/S 2000
Saved because: Photos from this collection pop up on my Pinterest from time to time, and I always save them. It was really an excellent grouping of oversized basics, and it’s a great styling reference to have on hand. And, because, I can’t resist a good trench.
Ghost Dresses by Brandon Morris
Saved because: Unreal fiberglass and resin dresses from artist Brandon Morris’ show ‘Actress.’ Simultaneously gorgeous and also terrifying, reminding me of the twins from The Shining.
Nike Air Rift (1997) via Simplicity City
Saved because: These are still on my shopping list, and this image from 1997 just sealed the deal. Might have to be my investment for spring, I love them with dresses. Also, hot tip, if you are ever in need of styling ideas, peep Simplicity City’s street style roundups of yore.
